Title:
MANUFACTURE OF TITANIUM CARBIDE COATED LAYER WITH SUPERHIGH HARDNESS ON STEEL SURFACE BY POWDER METHOD
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS57185970
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To form a TiC coat with wear and corrosion resistances on the surface of steel by heating the steel to a specified temp. in a mixture of TiH2 with halide of a metal other than Cu, Cu or Cu halide, and Al2O3.

CONSTITUTION: A steel product to be surface treated is buried in a powdered mixture consisting of 20W25wt% TiH2, 2W8wt% halide of a metal other than Cu, 2W6wt% Cu or Cu halide, and the balance Al2O3, and it is heated to 900W 1,000°C. Thus, a TiC coat with superior wear and corrosion resistances is formed on the surface of the steel product.
