PURPOSE: To manufacture a two-phase stainless steel excellent in corrosion resistance, by filling a metallic vessel with a powder of stainless steel containing specific amounts of Cr, Ni, and Mo as principal alloy contents, by sealing the above, and by making the above high-density by means of hot working, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The stainless steel powder containing, by weight, 26.0W30.0% Cr, 5.0W9.0% Ni, and 3.0W4.5% Mo as principal alloy contents, further containing, if necessary 0.10W0.35% N, and having an average grain size of ≤1mm is filled into the metallic vessel. The vessel is sealed after subjected, if necessary, to vacuum deaeration or further filled with nitrogen gas. Subsequently, the above metallic vessel is subjected, with holding the above steel power within, to hot working such as hot isostatic pressing, etc., or to a combination of hot and cold workings to be made high-density. In this way, a high-Cr and high-Mo two-phase stainless steel combining high toughness with high corrosion resistance and having remarkably excellent pitting resistance and crevice corrosion resistance is sea water can be obtained.
