To provide an apparatus and a process by which a biodiesel fuel of a fatty acid alkyl ester satisfying the biodiesel fuel specifications is easily and quickly manufactured from fats and oils such as vegetable oils and animal oils.
The biodiesel fuel manufacturing apparatus has an ester exchange reaction unit to obtain reaction products by mixing fats and oils with a catalyst-containing alcohol solutio, a vacuum distillation unit to obtain a residual liquid by removing low boilers from the reaction products by vacuum distillation, a separation unit to separate the residual liquid into a light liquid and a heavy liquid and a refining unit to refine the light liquid by bringing it in contact with a solid adsorbent. The refining unit is removably installed.
