Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method in which, in the case where deterioration of a part of electrolytic cells occurs in a sodium hypochlorite manufacturing apparatus having a serial electrolytic cell group which is made up of a plurality of serially connected electrolytic cells, operation of the cell is allowed to continue while its life is prolonged as long as possible.SOLUTION: There are provided a sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution manufacturing apparatus and an operation method of the apparatus in which a power source has a plurality of DC power supplies 14 connected in parallel, a value of current flowing though a serial electrolytic cell group 12 is reduced by turning one or a plurality of the DC power supplies 14 off when voltage applied to the serial electrolytic cell group 12 exceeds a predetermined threshold value, and voltage to be applied is controlled. In the operation method of the apparatus, while one or a plurality of the DC power supplies 14 are turned off, the power supplies are operated while the concentration of sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution after dilution is made closer to the concentration before turning the DC power supplies 14 off by reducing an amount of secondary dilution water which further dilutes sodium hypochlorite aqueous solution generated in the serial electrolytic cell group 12 corresponding to a ratio of the DC power supplies 14 to be turned off.
