Abstract:

To provide a method for manufacturing 2-methyl-2-adamantanol and a magnesium chloride salt thereof at a high purity in a high yield on an industrial scale by using methylmagnesium chloride.

The method for manufacturing the magnesium chloride salt of 2-methyl-2-adamantanol comprises causing 2-adamantanone to react with methylmagnesium chloride, where the reaction of 2-adamantanone with methylmagnesium chloride is carried out at a reaction temperature controlled at 50°C or lower.
