The manufacturing method of the adsorbent which selectively adsorbs a target compound has a substitution process for bringing a base material, which is mainly constituted of apatite represented by a compositional formula: Ca10(PO4)6[(OH)1-aXa]2 (wherein X is at least one of halogen atoms and a is 0≤a≤1) at least in the vicinity of its surface, into contact with a solution containing ions of at least one kind of divalent metal elements to substitute at least a part of Ca possessed by apatite with the divalent metal element and a baking process for baking the base material after the substitution with the divalent metal element at a temperature from 950°C to the pyrolytic temperature of apatite.
