Title:
MANUFACTURING METHOD FOR BURIED TYPE OPTICAL ISOLATOR USING POLARIZING GLASS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3459047
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an assembling method which makes a buried type optical isolator, using polarizing glasses, inexpensive and high in precision.
SOLUTION: A laminated body is formed by laminating and bonding first polarizing glass which has a surface where metal particulates having a polarizing function are arrayed and also has an incidence polarizing surface at a specified angle to a reference side, a Faraday rotator which has an about 45° angle of rotation, and a second polarizing glass which has a metal particulate alignment layer on its surface and also has a plane of polarization at about 45° to the first polarizing glass so that the metal particulate alignment layer faces the Faraday rotator; and the first and second polarizing glasses are polished nearly up to the metal particulate alignment layer on both the incidence and projection sides and the polished laminated body is diced into a specific rectangular parallelepiped based upon the reference side. The thin element in the rectangular parallelepiped shape is embedded in a groove of a permanent magnet which is magnetized in a specified direction to manufacture the buried type Faraday rotator.
