To provide a method for producing an exhaust gas purifying catalyst in which a perovskite type oxide is stable even in endurance in a high temperature oxidation reduction and which is reduced in the decrease of a specific surface area, can effectively prevent deterioration in catalyst performance, and can efficiently be produced industrially.
In the method, a pre-crystal composition containing element components constituting the perovskite type oxide containing a noble metal is prepared, the composition and the powder of θ-alumina and/or α-alumina are mixed to produce the mixture, and then the mixture is heat-treated. Since the oxide is supported by the powder of the θ-alumina and/or α-alumina, the heat resistance of the oxide can enough be secured, and the deterioration in the catalyst performance can effectively be prevented. The exhaust gas purifying catalyst can be produced industrially efficiently by the method.
