Abstract:

To provide a manufacturing method of a catalyst which can improve the mechanical strength of a molded article formed by molding a granule of a catalyst precursor and which can manufacture the methacrylic acid with high yield, and to provide a catalyst manufactured by the method and a manufacturing method of methacrylic acid using the catalyst.

The manufacturing method of a catalyst for manufacturing methacrylic acid contains phosphorus, molybdenum, and vanadium used when methacrolein undergoes gas phase contact oxidation in molecular oxygen. The method includes steps of: mixing 100 parts by mass of the granule of the catalyst precursor with 0.1-15 parts by mass of a granule of urea wherein a granule with a diameter of 0.1-150 μm is 80 mass%; dry-molding the obtained mixture; and heat-treating it.
