To provide a method capable of advantageously manufacturing a conductive roll provided with a coating layer on the outside of a roll main body made from a conductive elastic element and bending little in an axial direction.
A generally columnar roll main body 18 made from the conductive elastic element is vertically disposed, and a circular truncated cone-shaped applying roll 26 is horizontally disposed so as to press against a roll main body outer peripheral surface. Those are rotated about an axis. The applying roll 26 is relatively moved in one vertical direction to the roll main body 18, and a coating liquid is supplied to the applying roll 26 to be applied on the roll main body outer peripheral surface. On the other hand, the pressing amount of the applying toll to the roll main body 18 is continuously changed according to the measured thickness :AX of a part on which the applying roll in the roll main body 18 is pressed, thereby making the outer peripheral surface of a coating layer provided on the outside of the roll main body becomes a columnar surface as much as possible.
