To provide a method for preparing an oxychlorination catalyst whose fluidity is hardly degraded and which has high activity and selectivity, and to obtain the oxychlorination catalyst.
The oxychlorination catalyst is prepared by the following steps (a) to (c), namely, a step (a) to prepare slurry by adding hydrochloric acid to pseud-boehmite alumina slurry and adding a cupric chloride aqueous solution and a rare-earth metal chloride aqueous solution and/or an alkali metal halide aqueous solution to the hydrochloric acid-added pseud-boehmite alumina slurry, a step (b) to spray-dry the prepared slurry and a step (c) to fire the fine particles obtained by the step (b). It is preferable that the pH of the prepared slurry is within the range of 2.5-5.0.
