A liquid or gel-like seal material 54 is applied to sealing faces 51c of core plates 50a of header tank 5a, 5b, and then the seal material 54 is hardened by heating. Then the core plate 50a and the tank main body 50b are fastened. The seal material 54 after hardened has an adherence, and is closely kept into contact with the sealing face 51c of the core plate 50a due to its adherence. As distortion or displacement of the seal material 54 in fastening the core plate 50a and the tank main body 50b are not found, and the sealing face 51c of the core plate 50a and a sealing face 53 of the tank main body 50b can be properly sealed up by elastic deformation, the leakage of engine cooling water can be prevented beforehand.
