Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process of producing metallic iron by heating agglomerate including an iron oxide-containing material containing much gangue components and a carbonaceous reductant in a moving-hearth heating furnace, in which metallic iron can be efficiently recovered from the resulting reduction product including metallic iron and slag, obtained by heating the agglomerate.SOLUTION: A process of producing metallic iron includes the steps of: agglomerating a mixture including an iron oxide-containing material and a carbonaceous reductant; introducing the resulting agglomerate into a moving-hearth heating furnace 101, and reducing the agglomerate by heating; crushing the resulting reduction product including metallic iron and slag, discharged from the moving-hearth heating furnace, using a crusher 102 that exerts impact; screening the crushed product using a sieve a103 of which aperture is 3-5 mm; and recovering metallic iron 104 on the sieve a.
