Abstract:
To provide a glass fiber reduced in light scattering loss by fully promoting structural relaxation of the glass.
In the subject manufacturing method for an optical fiber, an optical fiber preform 16 is heated and drawn in a wire drawing furnace 12, and the drawn optical fiber 11 is kept at a specified annealing temperature in an annealing furnace 15 located under the furnace 12, the optical fiber 11 at the inlet of the annealing furnace 15 is cooled to make the fiber temperature nearly the same as the annealing temperature of the annealing furnace 15.
