Abstract:
To provide an outer tube for steering intermediate shaft, which comprises a solid male shank and a bottomed cylinder-shaped female cylindrical part, has a sufficient strength, and can sufficiently assure an axial direction length of an inner peripheral side engagement part, at low cost.SOLUTION: A solid columnar shank 58 is formed at an end part on one side in an axial direction of a columnar blank 51 by frontward extrusion molding, and a bottomed cylinder-shaped cylindrical part 59 having a bottomed hole 62 is integrally formed on the other side in the axial direction of the shank 58 by backward extrusion molding, thereby obtaining an intermediate blank 53. The cylindrical part 59 is restrained by a restraint die 66, and a punch 65 for formation of an inner peripheral groove, which is located on the other side in the axial direction of the intermediate blank 53, is inserted in the bottomed hole 62 in the state that a die 64 for formation of an outer peripheral groove on one side in the axial direction of the intermediate blank 53, thereby forming an inner peripheral side engagement part 28 on an inner peripheral surface of the cylindrical part 59, and the shank 58 is pushed inside the die 64 for formation of an outer peripheral groove, thereby forming an outer peripheral side engagement part 22 on an outer peripheral surface of the shank 58.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
