To provide a method by which a metalized part and a nonmetalized part can be formed with sufficient accuracy without requiring complicated work and a partially metalized optical fiber can be manufactured at a low cost.
A separated resin covering is moved to the tip side of a coated optical fiber along the longitudinal direction of the optical fiber only by a predetermined distance namely only by length of the metalized part in the coated optical fiber which is finally exposed. Accordingly the separated resin covering covers the nonmetalized part in the coated optical fiber which is finally exposed. After removing residues 13 of the resin covering remaining on the already exposed surface of the coated optical fiber, metallic coating with Ni and Au is applied onto the exposed coated optical fiber.
