Abstract:
To provide a manufacturing method of a piston for an internal combustion engine which can form a favorable functional layer by homogeneously distributing the powder of a functional sintering material to a crown surface of the piston.SOLUTION: A functional layer is formed on a piston crown surface by performing: a first-state functional layer installation process S14 for holding a functional powder sintering material, and installing a first-state functional layer 31 composed of a holding agent including at least one of resin, adhesive and wax on the piston crown surface; and sintering processes S16, S17 performed after the first-state functional layer installation process, for creating a second-state functional layer by heating (S15) the first-state functional layer, the second-state functional layer being reduced in volume of the holding agent more than that of the first-state functional layer and being a functional sintered body obtained by sintering the functional powder sintering material.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 7
