To provide a method for efficiently manufacturing a sintered body which contains little carbon and is superior in mechanical and chemical characteristics, by making the sintered body contain a predetermined objective amount of carbon, for instance, by lowering the carbon content, and to provide the sintered body of high quality, which is manufactured by the manufacturing method, contains the objective amount of carbon and has the objective characteristics.
The method for manufacturing the sintered body includes the steps of: manufacturing a molded body by molding a composition which contains a metal powder mainly based on Fe with an average particle diameter of 7 μm or smaller and a binder; degreasing the molded body in a degreasing condition including a temperature-holding process including at least 2 steps of holding the molded body at temperatures of 300 to 500°C and 700 to 840°C for 0.5 to 3 hours respectively; and subsequently sintering the obtained degreased body in baking conditions including a temperature-holding process comprising at least 2 steps of holding the degreased body at temperatures of 850 to 990°C and 1,000 to 1,200°C for 0.5 to 3 hours respectively.
