Abstract:

To provide a new method for manufacturing a sintered block of diamond with high precision and in a high yield, which is suitable as materials of the sintered compact of diamond with a large three-dimensional shape for tools or cutters such as an anvil used for researching physical properties at ultrahigh pressure, forming dies for hard materials, glass fiber cutters and scribers.

The method for manufacturing the thick-walled sintered block of hard abrasive grains having an inclined surface comprises, when supplying starting mixed powders containing powder of the hard abrasive grains and powder of a binding material to a region under prescribed pressure and temperature conditions, in which the hard abrasive grains are thermodynamically stable, to manufacture the sintered block of the super abrasive grains, charging the starting mixed powders into a forming die made of a metallic material, which has an inner surface of such a shape as to be tapered off from an opening to the bottom, sealing the opening with a heat resistant and pressure resistant block, and then pressurizing it by a single-shaft pressurizing press while matching a central axis of the forming die with the pressurizing direction.
