Abstract:

To provide a polymerization catalyst exhibiting a high polymerization activity for cyclic olefin addition polymerization and cyclic olefin/-olefin addition polymerization and a polymerization process.

The manufacturing process of a cyclic olefin addition polymer comprises addition-polymerizing a cyclic olefin in the presence of a catalyst composed of the combination of a compound having a specific structure of a transition metal of the group 4 in the periodic table and a compound which forms ion pairs as a result of reacting with an organic aluminum oxy compound and/or a transition metal compound of the group 4 in the periodic table. Preferably, in the compound having a specific structure of a transition metal of the group 4 in the periodic table, the transition metal of the group 4 in the periodic table and the cyclopentadienyl ring are bonded in an 1 bonding mode.
