This map data distribution server reads position information of own house spot of a user receiving distribution of map data, position information of a registered spot registered correlatively with own house spot, old version map data having the same version as one used by the user, and new version map data having a newer version (step 223). The server also calculates a new route from own house spot to the registered spot based on the new version map data (step 225), extracts a newly-installed road existing in the new version map data and not existing in the old version map data from the new route (step 227), extracts road data of the extracted newly-installed road from the new version map data, and transmits the extracted road data to a vehicle navigation device 2 (step 229).
