This map information generator is provided with a hierarchical type map information storage means 11 storing hierarchized road map information, a statistical information accumulating means 12 for accumulating traffic situations in the past in each road statistically processed, a map information acquisition means 13 for acquiring the road map information of the assigned road of assigned hierarchy from the hierarchical type map information storage means 11, a statistical information acquisition means 14 for acquiring the statistically processed traffic situations of the assigned road from the statistical information accumulating means, and a map information generating means 15 for adding the information of the assigned road to a supervising hierarchy, and for generating new map information, when the statistical information acquired by the statistical information acquisition means 14 is superior than that set in the supervising hierarchy, and the route capable of arriving at the destination more quickly is searched, when the route is searched.
