PURPOSE: To easily obtain a map of a necessary range by providing an start paint specifying means for specifying a paint as a start point and an end point specifying means for specifying a point as an end point.
CONSTITUTION: A center is called, service is started, and a user inquires the start paint of the map to be obtained through an audio response device 4. In this case, the user inputs a telephone number with push buttons to specify the position of the start point. Then the user inputs the telephone number of the end paint by inquiring the end point. At the center, a push-button tone recognition device 5 recognizes the two specified points and retrieves the positions in a map data base 3 to take the map between the two points out. Then the map is sent to the user-side FAX 8 from the FAX 6 for reception by utilizing a pay telephone line 7. Consequently, the map of the necessary range can easily be obtained by specifying the start point and end point.
