To provide a marine propulsion device which can switch motor propulsion and hybrid propulsion, and capable of achieving high operability by preventing stagnating of rotational speed while switching.
The rotational speed of a motor generator M/G 20 in motor propulsion and the rotational speed of main engine in hybrid propulsion are controlled in a ramp function with a relatively high rate of increase. In synchronizing and increasing rotational speeds of the M/G and the main engine while engaging a clutch 7 to switch motor propulsion to hybrid propulsion, the rotational speeds of the M/G and the main engine are controlled in a ramp function with a relatively low rate of increase. The increase in the switching rotational speed becomes moderate during a clutch engagement operation and stagnating of the rotational speeds are eliminated, thereby to continuously switch an operational mode without causing an uncomfortable feeling.
