PURPOSE: To mark accurately a flaw position with a simple mechanism by providing flaw sensors and markers to the upstream and downstream sides of rolling stands respectively and performing the marking basing on a delay time decided from the travelling time of a rolling material.
CONSTITUTION: Hot steel detectors 38, 40, 42 are provided to the outlet and inlet sides of rolling stands 12W20 by disposing flaw detecting probes 22 and markers 36 respectively, to detect the traveling time T of a rolling material 10, that the front tip of it requires to arrive at the marker 36 after passing the sensor 22, thereby deciding a delay time Dt by substracting a given correction time fixed previously from the time T. In this way, when a flaw signal SK is supplied to a marking controlling device 46 from a flaw detecting circuit 48, the marker 36 acts to perform marking as long as L hours by a marking signal SM after the delay time Dt. Thus, a marking is accurately provided to the flaw position of a material to be rolled by a simple mechanism, and this method is also available for a rolling material in hot rolling.
