To realize a mascot-like item for a book which can bring about a desire for placing it near a reader by imparting a change to a uniform appearance shape of the book of a rectangular parallelepiped shape and positively carrying the book with the reader, and the book having such a mascot-like item.

The mascot-like item of the book comprises a body 12 to be inserted between pages of the book 20, a pair of first protrusions 14, 14 formed of substantially foot shapes protruding from both ends of the body 12 when the body 12 is inserted between the pages of the book 20, and a bookmarker 10 having a second protrusion 16 formed in a substantially hand shape projected from a front fore edge 26 of the book 20. The book 20 comprises the mascot-like item made of the bookmarker 10, and a design 22 expressing eyes and a mouth and displayed on the cover 24 of the book 20.
