Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To grasp a total outline of an image at an early stage by defining the elements of component integration units to be all frequency coefficients contained in a specific number of sub-bands which are included in every component.
SOLUTION: A sub-band dividing part 101 defines N-types of luminance or chrominance components (N≥2) as components An (1≤n≤N, n is an integer) and divides the sub-bands for each component An. A coefficient coding part 102 codes the frequency coefficient of an image divided into sub-bands. A transfer order decision/rearrangement part 104 combines the luminance or chrominance component elements to produce the component integration units from the coefficient coding data which are produced at the part 102 and then rearranges in order (transfer order) the component integration units including the coefficient-coding data on the sub-bands of low resolution. A variable length coding part 103 applies the variable length coding to the rearranged coefficient coding data. In such cases, first the coefficient coding data are rearranged based on the transfer order, and then the variable length coding is carried out.
