Abstract:
To provide a mass damper enabling low temperature dependency or low repetitive dependency to be kept, realizing an attenuation effect depending on a speed, precisely and variably controlling its attenuation force and appropriately limiting an axial force of the mass damper.SOLUTION: A mass damper 1A of this invention comprises a screw shaft 11a connected to a first location in a system of a structure 3, a nut 11c engaged in thread with the screw shaft 11a through a ball 11b, a non-rotatable outer cylinder 10 connected to a second location, a rotary mass 13A driven to rotate by the nut 11c, several permanent magnets 15 arranged between the outer cylinder 10 and the rotary mass 13A along a peripheral direction to rotate in a magnetic field to produce Lorentz force, a pole piece 31 that can be moved between a prohibiting position where a magnetic field of the permanent magnets 15 is prevented from acting against the rotary mass 13A and allowable position where it is allowed, a control device 33 for controlling Lorentz force by driving the pole piece 31.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
