To significantly improve the qualitative and quantitative ability of mass spectrometry.
A mass spectrometer has an ionization source for generating ions, a linear trap 310 for accumulating and dissociating the ions, and a time-of-flight mass spectrometer for performing mass spectrometry on the ions by the use of a flight time. A collision damping region is disposed between the linear trap 310 and the time-of-flight mass spectrometer. A buffer gas is introduced into the collision damping region to reduce the kinetic energy of the ions ejected from the linear trap 310 and to make the kinetic energy continuous. A plurality of electrodes for generating multi-pole electric fields are disposed in the collision damping region. An ion transmission adjusting mechanism is disposed between the linear trap 310 and the collision damping region to allow or prevent the injection of the ions from the linear trap 310 to the collision damping region.
