Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect ions discharged from a linear ion trap (LIT) while being mass separated by resonant excitation action, without waste.SOLUTION: Conversion dynodes (CD) 31, 32 are arranged, respectively, on the outside of ion discharge ports 21a, 22a arranged oppositely across the medial axis C of a LIT 2, and a shield plate 34 having an ion passage port 34a is provided between the CDs 31, 32 and the LIT 2. A voltage slightly lower than the voltage applied to the CDs 31, 32 is applied to the shield plate 34. When the ions held in the LIT 2 are discharged by resonant excitation, the ions are accelerated by an electric field formed between the LIT 2 and the shield plate 34 while bending the orbit, before reaching the CDs 31, 32 by passing through the ion passage port 34a. Electrons ejected from the CDs 31, 32 by receiving ion injection are pushed back by the shield plate 34 and reach an electron multiplier tube 33 and detected. Since the CDs 31, 32 may be made of inexpensive Al, or the like, ions are detected without waste while reducing the cost, and sensitivity can be improved.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
