Title:
PRODUCTION PROCESS OF ISOBUTANE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3127556
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce isobutane which is useful as an alkylating agent with industrial advantage, for example, no corrosion in the installation, by isomerizing n-butane using a heteropolyacid as a catalyst in the presence of platinum or palladium.
CONSTITUTION: The isomerization of n-butane in the presence of a heteropolyacid catalyst enable easy production of isobutane. In this process, the heteropolyacid comprises, for example, (A) phosphomolybdenic acid, phosphotungstenic acid, phosphomolybdovanadinic acid, or phosphotungstovanadinic acid, and (B) platinum or palladium. The platinum or palladium is preferably added in an amount of 0.0001 to 20wt.% based on the heteropolyacid, while the polyacid is preferably more than 10wt.% of the total weight of the catalyst. The catalyst is preferably supported with an inert carrier such as silica, silicon carbide or diatomite. Isobutane is also useful as a starting substance of isobutene in addition to as an alkylating agent.
