To provide a material composition for optics which has a high color aberration correcting effect, does not generate a crack and the like and has durability and to provide an optical element using the same.
The optical element is formed by using the material composition including 5 to 75 mass% polymerizable compound (A1) represented by chemical formula 1, 5 to 85 mass% polymerizable compound (A2) having 1 to 3 polymerizable functional groups which are vinyl, acryl or methacryl groups, 5 to 35 mass% inorganic oxide particles (B) and 0.1 to 5 pts.mass polymerization initiator (C) to 100 pts.mass sum total of the polymerizable compounds (A1) and (A2). In formula 1, R denotes any one selected from 1-10C alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, and acyl groups and X denotes a polymerizable functional group.
