Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a material for enhancing formation of microtubule which can be used as healthy foods which activate cell functions or to prevent/treat Alzheimer-type dementia and so on.
SOLUTION: This material is obtained by the following steps of: (1) extraction of classified barley powder with water to give water extract, (2) gel chromatography of the obtained extract to give a low molecular fraction, (3) ion-exchange chromatography of the obtained fraction, and (4) gel chromatography of the obtained fraction to give matter for enhancing formation of microtubule. The material enhances growth of yeast and its cell number, and is effective to enhance cell functions (e.g. cell division, and maintenance of cell morphology) of eukaryote.
