To provide a material feeder attaining rapid feeding and remarkably reducing vibration and noise with a small and simple structure.

The material feeder includes a base elongated in the conveying direction; first and second movable bases 3, 4 provided upstream and downstream of the base; first and second moving drive mechanisms 5, 6 capable of reciprocating the first and second movable bases 3, 4 independently in parallel with the conveying direction; a control unit for controlling the first and second moving drive means 5, 6; first and second clamp mechanisms 8, 9 capable of clamping a strip material respectively; and a clamp switching mechanism 10 switching the operating state of the first and second clamp mechanisms 8, 9 to put the first clamp mechanism 8 in a clamping state and the second clamp mechanism 9 in a clamp release state when the first and second movable bases 3, 4 make an approaching movement and to put the first clamp mechanism 8 in the clamp release state and the second clamp mechanism 9 in the clamping state when the first and second movable bases 3, 4 make a separating movement.
