Title:
MATERIAL AND PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING PLASTIC MEMBER
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3373335
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To solve the problem of flowability and moisture retention in casting into a thin plastic shell by forming microspheres having a specified shape.
CONSTITUTION: There are provided thermoplastic microspheres made from a blend comprising a thermoplastic resin and a pigment, wherein the pigment constitutes below 5 wt.% of the blend and is in the form of oblong spheres, has an outside diameter in the range of 0.007-0.040 inch (0.18-1.0 mm), and has a smooth surface appearance. The thermoplastic resin used is a polyvinyl chloride, a polyurethane, a polypropylene, a polyethylene, a polystyrene, an epoxy resin, or an alloy thereof. The microspheres are obtained by mixing a thermoplastic resin with a pigment, and, optionally, additives, melting the mixture, melt-extruding the melt through an orifice, chopping the extrudate, and cooling the pellets in a water chamber.
