PURPOSE: A material for sliding members having good slidbility and providing a high PV value for a long time, prepared by mixing a fluroine-containing resin, carbon fiber and flurorocarbon, compression-molding the resulting mixture and setting the molded product.
CONSTITUTION: By way of example, 6% of carbon fiber, 4% of fluorocarbon powder and the balance of fluorine-containing resin powder are mixed together. The mixture is placed in a suitable mold and premolded at a compressive pressure of 150W500kg/cm2. After removing from the mold, the molded product is placed in a backing oven, heated to about 380°C over a period of 5W10hr, baked 3W10hr, and then cooled to room temperature over a period of 5W10hr, thus completing baking. The baked product is finished into a desired shape, and is used as a sliding material for seal rings of mechanical seals or for lip members of oil seals.
