Title:
MATRIX DRIVING METHOD FOR PLANE DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3229417
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To prevent the reduction of a drive margin due to the nonselective signal and keep the drive margin large by adding the counter-assist signal having the opposite polarity to the effective pulse of the selective signal reversing the reset state immediately after the effective pulse.
CONSTITUTION: Picture elements having bi-stability are formed at intersections of scanning electrodes X1-X5 and signal electrodes Y1-Y5. The reset period when all picture elements on the scanning electrodes are reset to one of dark and bright via the reset signal applied to the scanning electrodes X1-X5 and the write period when bright or dark is written and stored in the picture elements on the scanning electrodes via the selective signal are provided, and the counter-assist signal having the opposite polarity to the effective pulse of the selective signal reversing the reset state of dark or bright is added immediately after the effective pulse. The wave-form, voltage, and length of the counter-assist signal are determined in consideration of the effect of the effective value added to the picture elements by this signal, i.e., the product of the applied voltage and the applying time, on the drive margin.
