Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide both method and device for measuring the diameter of a cigarette.
SOLUTION: An article is rotated while the article is continuously or discontinuously transported. The article is irradiated with an optical light ray during the rotation. The size of at least one of shadows of the article induced by the light ray is detected, converted into an electric signal and a signal for the diameter of the article is formed from a great number of signals. In order to carry out this purpose, a turning gear 20 for rotating the article during its transportation, an irradiating device 4 for irradiating the article with the light ray during its rotation and a detector 16 for detecting the size of at least one shade 19 induced by the article in a short time and forming a signal corresponding to the average value of the diameter are installed to give the objective device for measuring the diameter of a cylindrical article in an tobacco processing industry.
