Abstract:
PURPOSE:To measure with high accuracy the length of an object to be measured while it is running by measuring the approximate length of the object to be measured with a detection signal of a sensor element and measuring the fractional length of the object from the passage time of the fractional portion. CONSTITUTION:When a sensor (2) is turned on, an approximate length measuring means 3 takes in the on or off condition of sensors (3) - N to determine the approximate length of an object to be measured. A factor determining means 5 determines the factor for expressing the moving distance of the object to be measured as a function of time by measuring the time span t1 from turning the sensor (3) on to turning the sensor (2) on, and measuring the time span t2 from turning the sensor (2) on to turning the sensor (1) on. A fraction measur ing means 4 determines the fractional number of the object to be measured by measuring the time span from turning the sensor (2) on to turning the sensor M off and entering the factor notified from the factor determining means 5. An overall length determining means 6 adds the approximate length and the fractional length together to determine the overall length.
