PURPOSE:To take a highly accurate measurement by setting a mark image where information read by a 1st mark image read means becomes next-time reference information when specific-distance movement is performed. CONSTITUTION:The 1st mark image read means 1 reads a mark image as reference information out of a mark image medium 12 which travels while stuck on the long-sized body 13 and a 2nd mark image read means 2 which is provided at a specific distance L from the read means 1 in the travel direction of the long-sized body 13 detects the reference information in the read information. Then information read by the read means 1 at the same time with a read of the reference information by the read means 2 is regarded as next reference information and said operation is repeated. Then a measurement is taken by using the product of the frequency of the read of the reference information by the read means 2 and the specific distance L between the read means and then a nonmeasurement in each measuring process becomes zero; and each measured length becomes equal to the specific distance L and the high-accuracy measurement becomes possible.
