Abstract:

PURPOSE: To measure the concentration of both NO2 and NO with high accuracy without using a gas, etc., required for a chemical reaction in a relatively simple system by a photo-acoustic analyzing method.
CONSTITUTION: A sample gas is introduced into a sample acoustic cell 16. The laser light from a monochromatic laser light generating device 10 is intermittently cast to the sample gas by a light chopper device 12. The acoustic intensity of the generated compressional wave is detected by a microphone 20 and synchronously amplified by a lock-in amplifier 24, whereby the concentration of NO2 in the initial sample gas is obtained by a data processor. At the same time, ultraviolet rays are cast to the sample gas by an ultraviolet irradiating device 30 to partly decompose NO2 to NO. The concentration of NO2 remaining without being decomposed is obtained in the same manner. The concentration of NO in the initial sample gas is calculated from the concentration of NO2 before and after the ultraviolet rays are cast.
