Title:
MEASURING METHOD FOR TEMPERATURE OF CABLE INSULATOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0392738
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To make it possible to measure the temperature of the insulator of a power cable during the manufacturing accurately by obtaining the propagation velocity of ultrasonic waves in the cable insulator, and obtaining the temperature of the cable insulator based on the relationship between the known propagation velocity and the temperature of the insulator. CONSTITUTION:Ultrasonic wave pulses are transmitted to a power cable 2 from an ultrasonic tranceiver 3. The ultrasonic wave pulses are propagated in cooling water 4 and reaches the power cable 2. A part of the pulses is reflected from the surface of an insulator 2a of the cable 2. The remaining pulses advance in the insulator 2a. The pulses are reflected and returned to the ultrasonic transceiver 3 through the cooling water 4 again. The reciprocating propagation time of the ultrasonic wave pulse in the insulator 2a is the function of the temperature of the insulator 2a. Therefore, the temperature of the insulator 2a can be obtained by measuring the riciprocating propagation time. Namely, the propagation velocity in the insulator 2a is obtained, and the temperature of the insulator 2a can be obtained by an appropriate converting means based on the propagation velocity.
