PURPOSE: To provide the subject bulky and lightweight coated paper having excellent ink setability and excellent compressibility by coating the surface of specific base paper with a specified paper-coating composition.
CONSTITUTION: One or both the surfaces of base paper is coated with a paper- coating composition comprising a binder and pigments containing kaolin having a precipitation volume of 0.77-0.95ml/g in an amount of 15-50wt.% based on all pigments in a coating amount of 1.5-10g/m2 to provide the objective coated paper. The bulk density of the coated paper is preferably 0.50-0.70g/cm3. The base paper contains at least one of mechanical pulps consisting of stone-ground pulp, pressed stone-ground pulp and thermo-mechanical pulp in an amount of 40-80wt.% per the absolutely dry weight of all pulp. The single or mixed pulp has freeness of 35-65ml C.S.F. by JIS P-8121 and a bulk density of 0.34-0.43g/cm3 by JIS P-8118.
