The mechanical pencil of a shaking out type runs out a lead 10 by advancing a chuck 1 by inertia force of the heavy weight body 12 to be generated by shaking the barrel cylinder 7. A distance L2 from a stage part of the connector 2 touching the front edge of the refill tank 3 to the outer collar 2C is set longer than a separate distance L1 from a rear end of the refill tank 3 under a state wherein the chuck 1 holds the lead 10 to a stage part of a pressing component 16.
