To provide an emergency call device capable of responding to a subject if an abnormality occurs in the subject when an operator is absent by automatically determining the absence of the operator when an emergency call is made because the operator may be temporarily absent during the long-time imaging and therefore the emergency call can not be managed during the absence of the operator though, normally, the operator of an MRI apparatus is always present in a control room to immediately respond to the emergency call.

If a confirmation switch is not pressed for a prescribed period of time after an emergency call switch is pressed, the emergency call device determines that the operator is absent in the control room, and the imaging by the MRI apparatus is automatically stopped. Then, the range of emergency call is expanded from within the control room to the outside of the control room. Accordingly, the emergency call is transmitted to others than the operator to respond to the subject.
