To obtain a peripheral vasodilator having telangiectatic action and high safety and useful for treatment, prophylaxis, etc., of shoulder stiffness, frostbite and alopecia by subjecting water extract of glycyrrhiza to lactic acid fermentation until pH value of water extract of glycyrrhiza becomes a specific value or below.
This peripheral vasodilator comprises a fermentation solution obtained by subjecting a water-extracted solution of glycyrrhiza to lactic acid fermentation until pH value of water extraction of glycyrrhiza becomes ≤5. It is preferable that the fermentation solution or its dehydration treated material contains liquilitin and lactic acid in an amount of 1-300 pts.wt. and glycyrrhizin in an amount of 1/30 to 3.9 pts.wt. based on 1 pt.wt. liquilitin and exhibits ultraviolet ray absorption at 265 to 275nm and 305-320nm and produces white precipitate when methanol, ethanol or acetone is added to an aqueous solution having 5g/100ml solid content and has no sweetness and subjected to sterilization treatment after fermentation. Lactic acid fermentation is preferably carried out under facultative anaerobic conditions at 1-40°C by using a lactic acid bacterium of the genus Lactobacillus or the genus Bifidobacterium.
