The apparatus provided in the carrying path of a card-like medium 2 for converting the carrying direction comprises: a medium carrying part 61 capable of stopping and holding the medium; a turning body 602 freely turnably supported to an apparatus main body 601; a medium sensor for detecting the holding position of the medium; and a flat cable 611 for transmitting signals from the sensor to the drive control circuit of the apparatus main body. The flat cable comprises: a wound part 612 wound around the turning center shaft 603 of the turning body with slack in a concentric roll shape; a first turned-back part 613 turned back from the wound part to the apparatus main body on one end side of the flat cable; and a second turned-back part 614 turned back from the wound part to the turning body on the other end side of the flat cable. The distal end side of the first turned-back part is fixed to the apparatus main body, and the distal end side of the second turned-back part is fixed to the turning body.
