Abstract:
To provide a medium detector that comprises a sensor having a light-emitting unit for emitting detection light for detecting a medium toward a transport path and a light-receiving unit for receiving the detection light, so as to detect a medium over a broad range by a simple configuration.SOLUTION: A medium detector includes as one example a paper-currency detector 1 comprising a sensor having a light-emitting unit 11 that emits detection light L for detecting a paper-currency B, one example of a medium, toward a transport path 101 and a light-receiving unit 12 that receives the detection light L and prisms 21-25, one examples of a plurality of reflection units, that reflect the detection light L emitted by the light-emitting unit 11 toward an opposite side with respect to the transport path 101. The plurality of prisms 21-25 are arranged two or more (prisms 21, 23, 25) on one side with respect to the transport path 101 and arranged in the number one less than that on the one side (prisms 22, 24) on the other side with respect to the transport path 101. The light-emitting unit 11 and the light-receiving unit 12 are arranged on the other side with respect to the transport path 101.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
