The recording medium identification device for identifying the kinds of a plurality of recording mediums and guiding connection of connectors corresponding to the kinds and the recording mediums has a recording medium insertion/ejection part for inserting the recording medium into the device and ejecting it from the device. The recording medium insertion/ejection part includes a shutter rotatably supported and pressed in the direction of an angular position to close a slot, and a roller drive part for inserting and ejecting the recording medium. The roller drive part has an insertion roller driven by a drive motor, and a driven roller for pressing the recording medium against the insertion roller. The height position of the driven roller is determined according to the rotation of the shutter, and the interval between the insertion roller and the driven roller is determined according to the thickness of the recording medium inserted.
