To provide a medium processing unit capable of improving productivity of crimp binding.SOLUTION: A medium processing unit comprises: a transport part for transporting media; a liquid application part for applying liquid to the media; a crimp part for performing crimp binding to a plurality of media including the medium to which liquid is applied; a movement mechanism for moving the liquid application part to a width direction of the media; and a control part for controlling them. The liquid application part is movable between a stand-by position and the liquid application position. The liquid application part is configured to move to the liquid application position from the standby position, before one of the media is transported to the position where the liquid is applied to the one medium by the liquid application part, and when the first medium out of the media is transported to the position where the liquid is applied to the medium by the liquid application part, the liquid application part applies the liquid to the one of the media, and until the liquid application to the media is completed, the liquid application part is not moved to the standby position, then, after the liquid application to the media is completed, the liquid application part is moved to the standby position.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 13
